Low Intensity Laser Therapy (LILT)
Extensive research have shown that LILT can provide incredible benefits that other traditional therapies have failed to yield. This therapy has been used effectively to treat a diverse spectrum of conditions ranging from shingles to diabetic ulcers. But the mainstay of LILT is in the area of soft tissue injuries. These include muscle or tendon strains and tears, sprained joints (ligament tears), including all types of tendonitis and bursitis(inflammation). It is not uncommon to see laser being applied to superficial bone fractures and bone chips.
The Science
The use of light energy is called phototherapy. Proven safe and effective in many clinical studies. Its non-toxic, and non-invasive. It seems logical to try LILT before resorting to the possible side effects of drugs and complications of surgery. When low level light energy penetrate and gets absorbed by damaged cells, the cell’s “furnace” converts the light energy into biochemical energy. This triggers a reaction withing the cell that leads to tissue healing and the release of endorphines to reduce or eliminate pain.
More Than Pain Control
Phototherapy works to restore optimal cell function, speeding the process of healing or regeneration. It also produces secondary benefits of restoring circulation and activates the immune system. No other form of physiotherapy, including ultrasound, can match its effectiveness in the area of soft tissue healing. The end result is a faster return to full function and participation, requiring less treatment.
Known benefits of Low Intensity Laser Therapy:
- Induces beta-endorphin release (Reduces pain)
- Increase collagen production (Repair)
- Anti-inflammatory
- Increases microcirculation (bringing nutrients)
- Increases cellular energy for regeneration (fuel)
- Reduce fibrous (scar) tissue formation (stronger healing with better elasticity)
- stimulate nerve function (intelligence)
